چکیده

Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is one of the most important health challenges faced by the world today, with new cases being added at an alarming rate. Controlling traditional risk factors has not been effective in bringing down the incidence of the disease. CKD is associated with inflammation, morbidity, poor quality of life, decreased life-expectancy and death. Oxidative stress represents the imbalance between prooxidants and antioxidants in our body. Though a number of studies have focussed on the association between CKD and oxidative stress, majority of them are based on patients on hemodialysis. Moreover, there is confusion about the way the levels of some of these biomarkers vary in response to oxidative stress. This study was designed to study the biomarker of inflammation (CRP), MDA as a marker of oxidative stress, and SOD, GPx and TAC as parameters of antioxidant activity in controls and patients in different stages of CKD. We found that CRP and MDA values increase as disease progresses while there is decrease in the levels of SOD and GPx. The TAC values in patients do not vary much from that of controls. Efforts should be made to identify and reduce oxidative stress from the time of diagnosis of CKD.

Assessment of Probiotics Mixture on Memory Function, Inflammation Markers, and Oxidative Stress in an Alzheimer\'s Disease Model of Rats

Background: The most important cause of neurodegeneration in Alzheimer's disease (AD) is associated with inflammation and oxidative stress. Probiotics are microorganisms that are believed to be beneficial to human and animals. Probiotics reduce oxidative stress and inflammation in some cases. Therefore, this study determined the effects of probiotics mixture on the biomarkers of oxidative stres...

The Effect of Regular Aerobic Training and Garlic Extract on the Oxidative and Inflammatory Indices of the Heart Tissue of Doxorubicin- induced Elderly Rats

Abstract Introduction: Heart disease is a major cause of mortality in elderly people, and oxidative stress and inflammation lead to changes in myocardium, resulting in apoptosis and cardiac hypertrophy. Accordingly, this study aimed to investigate the effect of 8 weeks of regular aerobic training along with garlic extract consumption on SOD, MDA, CAT, IL-10, and TNF-α levels in the heart tissue...

اثر گلوتامین بر شاخص‌ های استرس اکسیداتیو، التهابی گلیکه و همچنین فعالیت سیستم گلی‌اوکسیلاز در موش‌ های صحرایی دیابتی- آترواسکلروزی

Background and purpose: Vascular complications of diabetes are the most common causes of mortality in diabetic patients. Hyperglycemia, insulin resistance, dyslipidemia, glycation products, oxidative stress, and inflammation lead to atherosclerosis and diabetic nephropathy in diabetes. This research aimed at studying the effect of glutamine (Gln) on main causes of vascular complications in diab...

Thymoquinone restores liver fibrosis and improves oxidative stress status in a lipopolysaccharide-induced inflammation model in rats

Objective: Liver fibrosis is the primary sign of chronic liver injury induced by various causes. Thymoquinone (TQ) is the major ingredient of Nigella sativa with several beneficial effects on the body. In the present study, we aimed to investigate the effect of TQ on liver fibrosis in a lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced inflammation in male rats. Materials and methods: Fifty male Wistar rats wer...

Oxidative stress and inflammation, a link between chronic kidney disease and cardiovascular disease.

Patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) show a high cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. This seems to be consequence of the cardiovascular risk factor clustering in CKD patients. Non traditional risk factors such as oxidative stress and inflammation are also far more prevalent in this population than in normal subjects. Renal disease is associated with a graded increase in oxidative stre...
